Leyland bus refurbishment

Bus painting in Fife
The award winning refurbished Leyland National

Gordon Low is the owner of the 1982 Leyland National single decker. Gordon contacted us to help renovate the bodywork, paint the stripes, and apply the graphics on his bus. He chose to restore the bus in Strathtay Scottish Omnibuses Ltd livery.

The refurbishment project coincided with the thirtieth anniversary of the former transport company in the north east of Scotland.

Gordon and his team had already prepared the panels by repairing and filling defected panels. The smooth sanding of surfaces and careful painting of the wheels was also completed.

Equipped with old photos and memories for reference, we went to work and started with the roof. The bus painting involved undercoating before two coats of gloss to achieve a solid finish.

Brushing went into the night to build up the coats of orange. Adding the all-around white stripe required three coats.

Cut vinyl was positioned and applied around the bus where the Stathtay logo and cove panel adverts were on this exact model. The text and graphics matched the original livery as well as a reproduction of an original lower rear poster, encouraging 1970s folk to hop on and travel.

The result dazzled passers-by and judges. The single decker won the Roland Williams award for the best bus at Lathalmond’s Scottish Vintage Bus Museum.

Gordon was over the moon.
